(KRON) — Two people were arrested after police received multiple reports of gunfire coming from the 100 block of Lincoln Road in Vallejo on July 17, according to the Vallejo Police Department.

“While canvassing the area, a witness reported that a gold Infiniti, believed to be associated with the shooting, had sped away from the scene,” Vallejo PD said. “A short time later, officers saw the Infiniti return to the area and attempted a traffic stop.”

The driver allegedly sped away from officers, turning sharply onto a cul-de-sac where the driver and the passenger attempted to run from police on foot. Officers ran after the suspects and allegedly saw the driver holding a gun.

The passenger was arrested near the scene. The driver attempted to escape through a nearby RV park, but was met with another dead end.

“The driver ran through a nearby RV park, threw the firearm onto the roof of a residence, and attempted to escape over a fence,” VPD said. “Unfortunately for him, the fence was topped with barbed wire.”

The driver was arrested and an unregistered Glock equipped with an extended magazine was found and seized at the scene. Police performed a records check on the driver and learned that he was a minor and did not have a driver’s license.

“His mother was contacted, and he was later booked into the Solano County Juvenile Detention Facility,” VPD said.

The man in the passenger seat was found to be on probation and was booked into the Solano County Jail.

“This case highlights both the risks officers face and the danger posed by armed suspects fleeing into residential neighborhoods,” VPD said. “Thanks to our officers’ quick response, coordination, and diligence, two suspects were arrested and another illegal firearm was removed from our streets.”
