On July 24, just before 9:10 a.m., Fairfax County police responded to the 8600 block of Westwood Center Drive. The victim reported being robbed at gunpoint while walking in the parking garage. A masked suspect reportedly grabbed her while holding a rifle and stole her phone.
She escaped and the suspect fled before police arrived.
Around 15 minutes later, at 9:25 a.m., the victim’s boyfriend showed up. While he was there, however, police said his home security system alerted him that someone was in the home. He saw the second suspect breaking into his home in the 4500 block of Plateau Drive in Fair Oaks.
Officers responded and confirmed items were taken, but the suspect was already gone.
The burglary suspect was quickly identified as Mohammad Asif, 36, of California. He was found at a nearby residence and taken into custody.
Asif was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was charged with burglary, two counts of grand larceny, conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to use a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was held without bond.
Detectives believe the two incidents are related and are working to reveal the robbery suspect’s identity. This incident does not appear to be a random act.
