A new report from Payless Power reveals a startling shift: 1 in 4 Texas residents have considered leaving the state entirely due to the financial strain of high energy costs. For households earning under $50,000 annually, that number climbs even higher to 28%.
As summer heatwaves continue to push the Texas power grid toward capacity, families across the state are feeling the burn from their skyrocketing bills. While 24% of residents switched electricity providers in the past year, only 15% reported actually saving money.
Even more concerning, 67% of Texans believe their electricity bill is too high, but just 18% say they understand how their bill is calculated, highlighting a growing transparency and trust issue within the energy market.
This energy affordability crisis is prompting a serious question for many: Can I afford to stay in Texas? As the state’s infrastructure struggles to keep up with both rising demand and record temperatures, residents are left to make tough decisions about their futures.
