Aug. 5 – Breastfeeding for Working Moms (Online)
A virtual class from 6 to 8 p.m. will offer support and strategies for breastfeeding mothers returning to work. Topics include milk supply management, pump selection, milk storage, and problem prevention. The course will be conducted via Google Meet. To register, call 318-769-4440 or visit rapidesregional.com and select “Calendar of Events” under Health Education.
Aug. 12 – Child Safety Seat Check (In Person)
From 2 to 5 p.m. at the Scott Street entrance of Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital, a certified child passenger safety educator will check car seats for recalls, proper installation, and fit. The process takes 15 to 25 minutes and is held monthly on the second Wednesday. No appointment necessary.
Aug. 16 – Prepared Childbirth Class (Online)
This virtual class, taught by a certified childbirth instructor, will run from 9 a.m. to noon via Google Duo. Topics include the stages of labor, when to go to the hospital, pain management, and Cesarean delivery. Couples are encouraged to register by calling 318-769-4440 or visiting the hospital website.
Aug. 21 – Diabetes Management Class (In Person)
A free educational session for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes or those in need of a refresher will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Cascade Room at Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Topics include meal planning, blood sugar monitoring, medication, and complication prevention. Taught by a registered nurse and dietitian, the course follows American Diabetes Association guidelines. Registration is required due to limited space.
Aug. 29 – Tackle Stroke at Local Football Jamborees
Rapides Regional Medical Center staff will be present at area high school football jamborees to distribute hand-held fans and educate the public on the risk factors and warning signs of stroke. The outreach effort aims to raise awareness in a high-traffic community setting.
