A 42-year-old man accused of grabbing a 12-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her in a car was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Qalinle Ibrahim Dirie was sentenced in Hennepin County Court to 12 years after being convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He will get 65 days of credit for his sentence and conditional release after confinement has been set at 10 years.
Dirie was arrested back in 2024 after Minneapolis Police were called to the hospital for a criminal sexual conduct report on June 10.
According to a then 12-year-old girl, she was playing in her backyard in Minneapolis on June 5 when a man, later identified as Dirie, approached her asking if her mom was home. The girl told him no, and Dirie reportedly left the house, only to return around ten minutes later.
Dirie grabbed the girl, forcing her into a car where he sexually assaulted her. The girl was able to get out of the car and run home, where she hid in the bathroom.
Around a month later, on July 29, 2024, court records state a male witness saw the girl receiving calls from a “Mohamed Muuse,” which the victim had not been responding to. When asked about who “Mohamed Muuse” was, the girl told the witness it was the man who had assaulted her.
Answering the phone, but not speaking, the man heard the caller on the other end ask when they could see the victim again and that they missed them.
The man then pretended to be the 12-year-old victim, messaging “Mohamed Muuse” on Snapchat, sending him their home address. The man told police he did this because he wanted to identify the man.
“Muuse” made reference to bringing condoms to see the victim and messaged that he was on his way.
When the “Muuse” arrived, he walked directly into the residence and found the man and the victim’s step-father waiting for him in the living room, and tried to run away.
The man stood in front of the door to prevent “Muuse”, later identified as Dirie, from leaving, allowing police to take him into custody.
When being transported to jail, Dirie reportedly told officers that he “Never met her” and “She told me she is 19 years old. I don’t know why.”
