Authorities believe there is a connection between a fatal shooting and subsequent break-in at a home in Windom on Wednesday, which led to a man being arrested.
At around 5:19 a.m., the Windom Police Department responded to the 1400 block of 12th Avenue for a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a 70-year-old woman with gunshot wounds, who later died at the hospital.
Police say that about 10 minutes later, officers were told that a man had broken into a home on the 1200 block of River Road and was in the bathroom.
The 38-year-old man was found on scene and taken into custody for burglary, according to the police department. After being brought to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, the man was transported to the Cottonwood County Jail.
Windom police said they believe both the shooting and break-in are connected.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say there is no threat to the public.
