City officials wrote Wednesday, “The City of Vallejo staff is aware of the issue of rodents in the downtown area. Staff is accessing the situation. The city has a pest control company coming out on Thursday July 24th to help with evaluation process.”
Local residents reported rat sightings around the Vallejo ferry building, library, post office, and areas where homeless encampments were previously entrenched.
One resident wrote on the city’s Facebook page, “The other day, before we got on the ferry, we crossed the street from the parking lot and saw like 15 to 20 dead rats just splattered near the crosswalk. It was honestly super nasty and kind of disturbing.”
Another resident wrote, “I went for a walk yesterday and by the café we saw like 15 in the grass running into the bushes.”
City officials are bringing in a rodent exterminator this week to assess the problem.
