The suspect, who was not identified by the Vallejo Police Department other than being a Suisun City resident, was walking in the 200 block of Cardinal Lane on Friday when officers said they recognized him from previous encounters. The officers, according to Vallejo PD, knew of his outstanding felony warrant for robbery out of San Jose.
As police attempted to talk to the man, he fled toward a nearby vehicle and got in the driver’s seat, authorities said.
“When officers attempted to detain him, he physically resisted, ignored their commands, and tried to shift the vehicle into drive while reaching around inside,” Vallejo PD wrote. “The suspect eventually exited the vehicle, leading to a foot pursuit. Officers chased him and successfully apprehended him.”
Officers searching the vehicle uncovered a loaded, stolen firearm near the driver’s seat that had been modified to be fully automatic, police said.
According to law enforcement, the man was recently released from jail on bail for two pending cases. He was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail on multiple felony charges.
