SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A Bossier City Police Officer was involved in a major accident along I-220 on Wednesday evening.

NBC 6 News crews at the scene report the back end of the officer’s vehicle and the front end of a second vehicle were badly damaged.

Bossier City Police Sergeant Shawn Poudrier says the accident happened at 7:46 pm as the officer was position his vehicle in the eastbound lane to remove debris in the roadway.

Sgt. Poudrier says the accident happened at mile marker nine, just after the bridge on I-220 approaching the Benton Road exit.

Both the officer and the driver of the vehicle which struck the patrol SUV were taken to Willis Knighton Bossier with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Poudrier says the officer was knocked into the back seat of the patrol SUV upon impact.

Access to I-220 from North Market Road in Shreveport was shut down for roughly an hour due to the accident.

Louisiana State Police and Bossier City Police are investigating the accident.
