Baton Rouge man jumps out of ambulance, charged with hit-and-run, officials say

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A vehicle crash and overdose on Tuesday, July 22, led to the arrest of a Baton Rouge man.

Depuites arrived near the intersection of Maplewood Drive and Pontotoc Street around 10:15 p.m.

When they arrived, authorities found Djuan Parker, 37, of Baton Rouge, on the ground, not breathing. A nasal dose of Narcan was administered, and Parker began to breathe again.

The ensuing investigation led to Parker being charged with hit-and-run, child endangerment law, driver must be licensed and insurance required.

Along with Parker, EBRSO also found a vehicle with his wife and 11-month-old daughter inside.

His wife said Parker took Mojo 30 minutes prior, and he was later taken to a hospital.

While on the way to the hospital, he jumped out of the EMS vehicle and began walking, EBRSO said.

Investigators spoke with witnesses who said Parker was heading east on Maplewood Drive when his vehicle left the road and hit a bird feeder.

The bird feeder was in someone’s front yard, and they were not made aware of it being hit by Parker.

Investigators also determined that Parker did not have a valid driver’s license and his vehicle was not insured.

The Baton Rouge man was detained and said he did not use any alcohol or drugs.

After being released from the hospital, Parker was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Wednesday, July 23.
