Rockford man accused of strangling a nurse with a stethoscope, hate crime

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Delbert Brown, 62, for strangling a nurse with a stethoscope, according to court records.

Officers were called to the Swedish American Hospital on East State for reports that a nurse was attacked on July 18. The incident began when Brown called the nurse a racial slur, authorities reported.

The nurse told officials that he was restrained but later broke free.

When she attempted to restrain him again, Brown wrapped her stethoscope around her neck and started to strangle her, according to court records.

The victim told police she was strangled for about five minutes.

Brown was booked into the Winnebago County Jail on July 22.

He is charged with aggravated battery that caused strangulation, aggravated battery of a nurse and hate crime.
