Jalyssa Walker, a rising sophomore at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, was recently crowned National American Miss North Carolina Junior Teen. She began competing in pageants just last year, and her crowning moment left her speechless.
“First, I was in shock, can’t stop smiling, and as I’m walking over to the previous queen, she puts the crown on my head, I started bawling on stage,” she said.
“I hope that I’m able to leave a positive influential mark not only on teen mental health but positivity and confidence in loving yourself, that’s what my platform, the ripple project, is based on, it’s doing kind acts throughout your community, so I want to carry that on,” said Walker.
Jalyssa will now advance to the national finals pageant, a prestigious event scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend in Orlando.
At that event, she will compete against over 150 girls from across the nation.
