Officers were called to an apartment complex just after 4 a.m. after receiving reports that two men were pulling on vehicle door handles.
When they got to the apartment complex, police said they saw a gray Nissan sedan leaving in a hurry.
Authorities tried to block the vehicle but were not successful. GPD said the driver of the vehicle almost hit a patrol unit, then proceeded to drive away.
A vehicle pursuit began. According to police, “the suspect fled northbound on Veterans Boulevard, then eastbound on LA 30, committing multiple traffic violations.”
From there, the vehicle made its way onto I-10 West “at a high rate of speed,” GPD said.
Police ended the chase in downtown Baton Rouge around 19th Street “in accordance with departmental protocol and out of an abundance of caution for public safety.”
The investigation remains ongoing. If anyone has information that could help police in this case, call the Gonzales Police Department at 225-647-7511 or submit an anonymous tip on their website.
