Man pleads guilty to fatal shooting over $5 in Jackson

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man pled guilty in connection to a fatal shooting that was sparked by a dispute over $5.00.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens said Jaquantus McGee pled guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Wendell Knowles, 31, outside of Jackson gas station in 2022.

The shooting occurred on April 1, 2022, on Englewood Street. Police said McGee approached Knowles and asked him about $5.00. Before Knowles could respond, police said McGee pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

McGee was sentenced to 34 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) with 12 years suspended.
