OPELIKA, Ala. (WRBL) — The Opelika Police Department has arrested a man in connection to a Sunday afternoon shooting that left one person in critical condition.

Police say that on Monday afternoon, OPD and the Lee County SWAT Team executed a search warrant near Crawford Road. Mykiel Sanchez Holmes, 28, was arrested on an attempted murder charge.

According to the police department, officers responded to the Grub Mart, located at 1000 Columbus Parkway for a report of a shooting. Opelika police issued an update around 8:45 p.m., saying that the shooting left one person injured.

Police say the investigation revealed the victim and Holmes were acquaintances and had a previous altercation.

The victim remains in critical but stable condition at Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Holmes has been booked into the Lee County Jail and the case remains under investigation. Police ask anyone with information to contact the detective division at (334)-705-5220 or the secret witness hotline at (334)-745-8665.
