BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Former and current Louisiana residents have received $69.3 million in unclaimed property funds this fiscal year, the second highest amount since 2021.

According to the Louisiana Department of Treasury, a total of $70.2 million in unclaimed property was paid to those eligible in 2021. The department said there is currently $1.2 billion in unclaimed property.

Unclaimed property can be payroll checks, old bank accounts, royalties, utility deposits, interest payments, stock certificates, and life insurance proceeds.

“One in six individuals in Louisiana has unclaimed property, with claims averaging $900. It is your money; we want you to claim it,” Treasurer John Fleming said.
