PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The man who died following a high-speed pursuit and crash that ended in a deputy shooting has been identified by Oregon State Police.

Kyle Davis Graham, 47, was eluding officers with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday afternoon when his white Kia Optima drove off Canaan Road near Highway 30 in Deer Island, according to police.

Officials said Graham had lost control of the vehicle and gone down an embankment before stopping near Merrill Creek. Deputies said he was armed when confronted and shot by Deputy Seann Luedke.

“Despite life-saving measures by officers and medics, the suspect died at the scene,” OSP said.

Deputy Luedke, who has been with the Columbia County department for three years, was placed on administrative leave per standard protocol.

According to police, Graham had been involved in another chase on July 19 in which he eluded Washington State Patrol while crossing the Lewis and Clark Bridge to Oregon.
