IMPD: Juvenile arrested after accidental self-inflicted shooting on north side

INDIANAPOLIS — A juvenile was arrested earlier this month after he accidentally shot himself on the north side of Indianapolis in late March.

According to officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 2400 block of Coral Bark Place in the early morning hours of March 28.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a juvenile who had a gunshot wound. Initially, the department reported that the juvenile was reported to be awake and breathing.

After an initial investigation, IMPD said that this incident was believed to be an “accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound” and a firearm was located on scene. The firearm was seized as evidence at the time.

On Monday, officials with IMPD said the juvenile was arrested in relation to this case on Thursday. The juvenile, who was not identified by the department, was arrested on preliminary charges of dangerous possession of a firearm as well as false informing.

This comes after Indianapolis has seen an increase in juvenile-related violence in the past few weeks, leading IMPD to more stringently enforce the city’s curfew laws. According to previous reports, IMPD reported that no children were brought into its reunification location this past weekend.
