GRAND ISLE, La. (WGNO) — Grand Isle is slated to host the International Tarpon Rodeo Thursday, July 24 through Saturday July 26.

According to Jefferson Parish officials, The Tarpon Rodeo is a fishing tournament with a $10,000 grand prize. It was founded in 1928, making it America’s oldest fishing tournament. Officials said the tournament will continue the tradition of community, competition and conservation.

Fishing divisions will include tarpon, redfish, trout and more. There will be options for shoreline anglers, big game participants and junior fishermen. Weigh-ins will take place at the Tarpon Rodeo Pavilion and Hurricane Hole marina.

The event will also have live music, local food, crafts and crab races.

Officials said the rodeo will honor nearly a century of fishing tradition in Grand Isle.
