Lawrence police officer hospitalized after motorist drives through crash investigation scene, strikes police car

LAWRENCE, Ind. — An officer with the Lawrence Police Department was hospitalized after a motorist drove through a crash investigation scene located near the intersection of North Post Road and Pendleton Pike Saturday afternoon.

Public police reporting systems indicate LPD officers were called to Post Road and Pendleton Pike around 2:35 p.m. to investigate a crash. While police were on scene, a motorist drove through the area officers had blocked off for their investigation.

While driving through the investigation area, the motorist struck an occupied LPD car. LPD confirmed that its officer in that car was transported from the scene to a local hospital out of precaution.

Police detained the driver who struck the squad car. LPD reported that a DUI investigation is now underway.
