Alabama woman dead after car hits utility pole

MARENGO COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A 34-year-old Marengo County woman was killed in a crash early Sunday morning, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Laporsha Dumas, of Dixon Mills, was fatally injured when the Nissan Altima she was operating departed the roadway and hit a tree. The crash happened around 12:45 a.m. Sunday on Highway 10 about a mile west of Dixon Mills.

Dumas, who reportedly was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division investigated the crash.
