Texas Craft Brewers Guild program, Brew City, adds Marshall

MARSHALL, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — The City of Marshall has announced its participation in the Brew City, Texas program.

Brew City is a program developed by the Texas Craft Brewers Guild (TCBG) in March 2024 to advance the Texas craft beer industry and its associated tourism.

The craft beer industry generates over $4.5 billion annually, despite Texas ranking 47th in breweries per capita. This disparity leads to considerable optimism that a focus on craft brewing could be economically lucrative. The industry already includes over 400 breweries and provides more than 30,000 jobs with significant room for growth.

Brew City, Texas, aims to unite breweries and make Texas a destination for craft beer enthusiasts by connecting both new and existing breweries with resources, marketing assistance, and each other.

Marshall Tourism & Main Street Administrator Lacy Burson said, “We’re thrilled to join the Brew City, Texas program and shine a light on the vibrant craft beer culture developing here in Marshall. Our community has long been a gathering place for regional flavor and Southern hospitality, and craft beer is a natural extension of our culture and economic vision.”

The centerpiece of the beer scene in Marshall is Rüeggenbach Brewing Company. Located on the square in historic downtown, Rueggenbach is a locally owned and operated brewery that crafts small-batch signature brews. The brewery occupies the building that once housed the first fire station in Marshall, a fitting location since the family is full of firefighters.

Marshall is known as the cultural hub of Harrison County, boasting a blossoming art scene and several annual festivals that showcase the city’s charm and Southern hospitality.

TCBG Executive Director Caroline Wallace is excited to welcome Marshall into Brew City, saying, “By collaborating with cities like Marshall, who are committed to celebrating the unique culture and flavors of Texas craft beer, we aim to drive tourism, stimulate local economies, and further establish Texas as a world-class beer destination.”
