Kentucky man rescued after fall from ‘series of cliffs’ in Wolfe County

ROGERS, Ky. (FOX 56) — Responders with the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team (WCSART) helped get a man to safety after he fell from several cliffs in Wolfe County on Friday afternoon.

Officials said the man had been away from home overnight, prompting a search from the rescue team and the Wolfe County Sheriff’s Department on July 18.

Around 12:30 p.m., rescue team members were dispatched to Tarr Ridge Road in Rogers. While searching, deputies heard a cry for help below a cliff.

“The individual had apparently fallen off a 50 ft cliff, then continued to tumble down a steep hill and a series of smaller cliffs, severely injuring himself along the way,” officials wrote.

Rescue team members, including a paramedic, rappelled down to the survivor to evaluate what had happened while other members set up a rope system above a nearby cliff line, WCSART wrote. After an initial treatment where he had fallen, he was hoisted and carried out of the woods in a Stokes basket and carried out of the woods, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to Clark Regional Hospital.

Wolfe County rescue officials said Friday’s mission was an important one, marking the group’s first rescue in partnership with Morgan County KY EMS as the “Wilderness response unit.”
