Woman killed in Auburn house fire was trapped in bathroom: fire marshal

AUBURN (KSNT) – The Kansas State Fire Marshal (KSFM) has released the identity of an Auburn deadly house fire victim Friday.

The KSFM said in a press release the victim has been identified as 47-year-old Toka Flickinger. Fire investigators say she was killed after becoming trapped in an intentionally set house fire in Auburn on July 17.

The fire was reported just after 6:30 p.m. on July 17 in the 500 block of North School Street in Auburn. Fire crews with Shawnee County Fire District #2 responded to the fire.

The KSFM said the Auburn Police Department responded to the home initially on a domestic-related call. A man in the house had left the residence with some children prior to police arriving.

Police learned that 15 minutes after the man left, a neighbor called 911 to report a house on fire. Police responded to the situation and tried to save the woman, later identified as Flickinger, but were unable to get to her location inside a bathroom in the home.

The KSFM said the fire is considered an act of arson. Investigators found multiple places inside the home were set on fire just outside the bathroom the woman was trapped in.

Lance Feyh with the KSFM told 27 News police are not looking for any suspects in connection to this deadly fire at this time. He said no arrests have been made yet and doesn’t expect any arrests to come in the near future in connection to this deadly fire. An autopsy is scheduled to take place next week for Flickinger.
