Three die in separate San Jose traffic collisions

(KRON) — Multiple fatal crashes have unfolded in San Jose this July, including two involving hit-and-run drivers, according to police.

On July 10 around 11 p.m., a hit-and-run driver caused a chain reaction collision at a red light on Quimby Road at Rigoletto Drive, San Jose Police Department spokesperson Stacie Shih said.

“A 2004 Honda Accord, occupied by an adult male driver and an adult male passenger, was traveling northbound on Quimby Road approaching Rigoletto Drive when it rear ended a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek, occupied by an adult male driver, that was stopped at a red light. The Subaru was pushed, striking a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder also waiting at the red light,” Shih wrote.

The driver of the Honda fled the scene of the collision and left their critically injured passenger behind, police said. After arriving at a hospital, the passenger was pronounced deceased.

On Tuesday, a pedestrian died after clinging to life for two months in a hospital. The man was run over by a hit-and-run driver who was behind the wheel of a 2019 white Chevy Silverado on May 30, police said. The victim had been crossing Sunset Avenue at Cinderella Lane in a marked crosswalk. Police found and arrested the Chevy Silverado driver Wednesday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

Another pedestrian was struck on Capitol Expressway near Senter Road at 4:33 a.m. on July 13. A man driving a 2024 black Mitsubishi Mirage crashed into a woman who was attempting to walk across Capitol Expressway, police said.

“The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation,” Shih wrote.

The woman died from her injuries, Shih said.

SJPD officials did not release identities of the victims and drivers for any of the three collisions.

There have been 17 deadly traffic incidents, including nine pedestrian deaths, in the city in 2025.
