Montgomery County neighbors keep cool by hitting the pool

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – People in Montgomery County are trying to get some relief from the overbearing heat. Those whom DC News Now talked with Thursday say coming to the Wheaton Glenmont Outdoor Pool is the perfect place to do just that.

“Oh my gosh, it’s hot,” Kenda Roberts said. “It’s super hot.”

Many neighbors in Montgomery County are feeling the same way, which is why the Wheaton Glenmont Outdoor Pool was filled with crowds of people Thursday afternoon.

Roberts decided to bring her children to the pool for the day.

“Anytime there’s a warm day and they can be occupied for the entire day, this is awesome,” Roberts said. “There’s a big block from one to eight, and they get in the water and just do their thing.”

Her daughter Laylah took full advantage of the pool.

“I’m planning on going on the little balance things and on the water slide,” Laylah said.

Elizabeth and John Ray Roberts also decided it was the perfect day for a dip.

“It’s been such a hot summer,” Elizabeth said. “We’ve been looking for something to do to stay cool. We went to some of the hotel pools, but then when we had the option to come here, we were like, ‘This is great.’”

In addition to having fun, both families are making sure they take the proper precautions to keep themselves protected.

“I’m drinking a lot of water out here,” John Ray said. “I’m always applying that sunscreen as often as I possibly can.”

Kenda said, “We make sure that we bring lots of water. We have our sunblock routine.”

Lifeguards patrolling the pool are taking those same safety measures.

“You’ll see our lifeguards are all under umbrellas,” Carmen Berrios Martinez, division chief for Montgomery County Recreation, said. “They’ve got sunscreen available to them. We make sure that everyone has access to water, so we stay hydrated.”

The Wheaton Glenmont Outdoor Pool is open Monday through Friday from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m.
