Lafayette secures convictions for two of four statewide cases of fentanyl murder

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — In Lafayette Parish, another conviction has been secured for a man accused in connection with a fentanyl-related death.

15th Judicial District Attorney Donald Landry informed said that this individual has been found guilty of the death of a seven-year-old child. Moreover, Lafayette Parish has now recorded two such convictions to date.

“That penny right there on the table. It only takes a few grains. What I normally would do is sprinkle a little bit of salt around this penny, and just a few grains of that fentanyl is enough to kill an individual,” Landry explained.

The first conviction is in the death of JonTerez Broussard. The UL Lafayette student unknowingly consumed fentanyl. The family was relentless in ensuring that such dealers felt the full force of justice. Damien Bernard, 27, of Arnaudville got life without parole for her death.

“It was that he sold drugs to some girls which resulted in one of their deaths,” Assistant District Attorney (Narcotics) Chase Edwards stated.

The second conviction is that of Daniel Boudreaux Jr. of Carencro, who was found guilty of the death of a seven-year-old girl.

“I think it was testified in trial that she went to school every day, no bad marks, nothing like that. She went home and that was the house she lived in; and unfortunately, that’s the house she passed away in,” Assistant District Attorney (Narcotics) Stephen Williams added.

Landry explained that parents should be informed and share that information with their kids.

“Teenagers and our children should know about this drug and should know that it could be at the next party they go to,” Landry noted.
