BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Some shelters in the Baton Rouge area will be open for those who need a place to go during anticipated severe weather bringing heavy rain and flash flooding.

A tropical disturbance in the Gulf is expected to bring heavy rain to south Louisiana. Baton Rouge could get 2-3 inches of rain from Wednesday to Sunday. Weather experts said the state’s coast could receive more, with forecasted 8-10 inches of rain.

The Salvation Army of Greater Baton Rouge Men’s Shelter will be open 24 hours from Thursday, July 17, to Sunday, July 20, or until it reaches capacity. The shelter is located at 7361 Airline Highway.

The Salvation Army seeks donations of bottled water, snacks, and toiletries.

According to Red Stick Ready’s website, another Baton Rouge shelter that will be open and accepting guests is the Bishop Ott Shelter. The facility is located at 1623 Convention Street.
