A suspected impaired driver ran from authorities and hid amongst cattail reeds in the mud, according to a news release from the Frazee Police Department.
Police pulled over 28-year-old Cole Edward Franzen on Monday and determined he was impaired after field sobriety tests. Authorities say Franzen ran off before he could be arrested and attempts to tase him were unsuccessful.
Franzen went into the Ottertail River and police weren’t able to apprehend him. After authorities launched drones, Franzen went into the cattails, buried himself in the mud, and camouflaged himself with cattail reeds, police said.
After hiding in the reeds for several hours, Franzen got out of the river and was almost arrested before he went back in. He was finally arrested by authorities in an airboat.
Franzen faces charges of driving while impaired, fleeing on foot, obstruction of justice and a felony court order violation. A Becker County Jail official told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that Franzen has refused to take a mug shot.
