At 9:38 p.m. Saturday, officers from the Vallejo Police Department responded to a report of a robbery in progress at a business in the 2800 block of Georgia Street. According to the department, one suspect entered the store, brandished a firearm, and demanded cash while a second suspect waited outside. The pair fled on foot with approximately $300 in cash.
“Thankfully, there was a hidden tracker concealed within the stolen cash,” the Vallejo Police Department said in a statement on social media at 11:58 p.m. Monday. “Officers were able to pinpoint a location near Short Street.”
The ensuing search drew support from the California Highway Patrol, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, and the American Canyon Police Department. A perimeter was quickly established in the surrounding neighborhood, where officers began receiving reports from residents who spotted the suspects running through their backyards.
“One suspect was located hiding under a truck in a nearby fenced yard, attempting to evade capture,” the department said. “With assistance from CHP Air and ground officers, he was safely detained after multiple announcements to surrender were made.”
The second suspect was also located nearby and taken into custody without further incident.
A records check confirmed that both men had prior felony convictions. Investigators later discovered that one of the suspects lived within walking distance of the crime scene.
“Officers went to the suspect’s residence and contacted his mother,” police said. “The mother consented to officers entering her residence and searching for evidence.”
Inside the bedroom, officers reportedly located “a loaded unregistered firearm with an extended magazine, clothing matching surveillance footage, and a plastic shopping bag used in the robbery.”
The GPS tracker led officers to the stolen cash, which was found discarded in a nearby field. Both suspects were transported and booked into the Solano County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery.
