Officers were called to the 900 block of North Main Street for reports of domestic violence on July 16, just past midnight. The woman could be heard yelling “help me” within the apartment complex, court records show.
The woman told authorities that Bustamante attempted to start doing drugs after he helped her with chores.
When the victim told the suspect to leave, he punched her multiple times and pushed her to the ground, according to court documents.
He proceeded to not let the woman leave, authorities reported.
The victim had visible injuries when officials arrived.
Bustamante was taken into custody shortly after and booked into the Winnebago County jail the same day.
He is charged with domestic battery that caused bodily harm, resisting an officer, violating an order of protection and unlawful restraint.
