Cut Off couple arrested after alleged contractor fraud investigation

LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of contractor scam following the arrest of a Cut Off couple.

In June, a woman reported to deputies that she had paid thousands to 54-year-old Ronald Click and 48-year-old Mary Click with Southern Hospitality, LLC to do work at her Larose home. The couple allegedly started but never completed it.

An investigation was launched and detectives discovered no business listing or contractor’s license for the couple or their business “Southern Hospitality, LLC.” Additionally, there was no evidence of them ever having licenses.

Arrest warrants were issued for the couple and on July 9 they were arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on one count each of residential contractor fraud.

LPSO deputies said the two were later released after posting a $25,000 bond each.

Warning signs of common contractor scams, according to LPSO deputies, include door-to-door solicitations, demands for cash and unusually large down payments and high-pressure sales tactics.

They add, anyone in need of a contractor should check references and ensure the contractor is licensed, bonded and insured which can be verified on the Louisiana State Licensing Board website.
