Whether easing your concerns or confirming your suspicions, the Retail Food Program Eat Safe Louisiana portal categorizes all food safety inspections in an online portal that is accessible to all.
With just a few clicks, you can select the parish and city, and see the food inspection history of nearby restaurants. The page does not just stop at restaurants, listing inspections for close to 34,000 food-serving locations.
This includes grocery stores, food trucks and even daycares among other food-serving establishments.
Inspections are performed one to four times per year, based on the type of operation. A concession stand serving only popcorn and nachos would not be visited as often as a full-service restaurant.
Inspectors do not announce their visits unless a re-inspection is being performed.
According to their webpage, “The Retail Food Program’s objective is to prevent and minimize food-borne disease outbreaks through consulting, monitoring, issuance of permits and regulation of food establishments. The program also oversees the Food Safety Certification Program which consults with industry, monitors and regulates the Food Safety Certification requirements of retail food establishments.”
