New details on Silver Lake Flat drowning released

UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — The Utah County Sheriff’s Office has released new details regarding the fatal drowning of a 31-year-old man at Silver Lake Flat Reservoir on Saturday.

Just before 7 p.m. on July 12, a 12-year-old girl was on an inflatable tube when she began drifting further out onto the Silver Lake Flat Reservoir. A family member — now identified as Daniel Braga Figueiredo, 31 — grabbed a paddle board and went out to help her, according to the sheriff’s office.

The two were reportedly seen struggling to consolidate themselves and both ended up in the water. Witnesses at the scene also went out onto the reservoir to help.

Figueiredo was last seen lifting the 12-year-old girl up onto an “inflatable device” before disappearing underwater, officials said. Rescue personnel from numerous agencies then responded to assist.

The body of Daniel Braga Figueiredo was recovered from the Reservoir at around 9:30 p.m., officials said.
