According to the Pomeroy Volunteer Fire Department, the fire broke out around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 13 on North Second Avenue in Middleport. The department says no one was injured, but a couple of the firemen were treated for heat exhaustion.
Fire crews from Middleport, Pomeroy, Rutland, Mason, Syracuse, New Haven and Racine all responded to the scene. The Middleport and Pomeroy Police Departments and the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office also responded for traffic and crowd control.
According to the Pomeroy VFD, Meigs County EMS called for any available EMTs and paramedics to respond to the scene due to the high temperatures of the day. Columbia Township and York Township both responded to the call.
The Pomeroy VFD says AEP also disconnected the power to the affected residence.
Firefighters also thanked the residents and businesses who brought ice, water, Gatorade and food to the scene for the crews.
Fire officials say the Red Cross is helping displaced residents. WOWK 13 News is working to learn more about how many residents were displaced by the fire and if a cause has been determined.
