BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — LSU football was the first to take the stage for the 2025 SEC Media Days in Atlanta starting at 8 a.m. CT.

Head coach Brian Kelly brought quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr., and linebacker Whit Weeks with him for SEC Media Days.

Kelly had high praise for Hilton, the former Zachary High School football player, saying, “He’s a guy who’s put in the time and had some rough spots along the way, but he’s going to have a terrific year.”

“I’m built for anything. As everybody knows, I had a major injury on my leg, and it kept me sidelined for a couple of games, and I went through all the criticism and the adversity, and then it also happened in the last two games. So I kind of just told myself that I’m built for whatever,” Hilton told reporters.

Nussmeier commented on Hilton’s growth, saying, “he’s poised to have a breakout season.”

The fifth-year senior racked up 198 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the last two games of the 2024 season.

When is the season opener?

LSU will open the season on the road against the Clemson Tigers on Aug. 30.

Kelly emphasized the importance of winning the season opener. LSU is 0–5 in its last five Week One games, with three of those losses coming under his leadership.

“We’ve also been 0–3 in openers under my watch, and we needed to do some things differently this year,” Kelly said.
