Bull riding show outselling demolition derby at this year’s Boone County Fair

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — The Boone County Fairgrounds in Belvidere are already buzzing with anticipation as tickets for the 2025 fair are now on sale.

The fair runs Tuesday, Aug. 5, through Sunday, Aug. 10. The ticket office opened Saturday, July 12.

And while general admission passes and tickets to see Justin Moore and the demolition derby are steady sellers, the Aug. 8 Next Level Professional Bull Riding event is drawing the most attention.

“Bull riding [tickets are] flying out of here,” said ticket office volunteer Mary Innis.

The bull riding show is set for 7 to 10 p.m. Friday Aug. 8, in the 2,500-seat grandstand. The spectacle features top bull riders tackling some of the toughest 2,000-pound bulls, testing their skill against the animals’ powerful will.

Innis said the line at the ticket office was especially long Saturday.

“We were here until 12:30 [Sunday],” she said. “Everybody wants bull riding,”

Fans say sport is so exciting because the bulls are so unpredictable. Jim Rocuskie, of Poplar Grove, attended his first Next Level show in 2024.

“I had never seen it before,” Rocuskie said. “And I thought it was really a tremendous sport to watch. So, I am back again this year.”

Fourteen-year-old Kaitlyn Shere, a member of the Boone County Youth Fair Board, assists with animal care among other fair duties, encourages first-timers to take in a show.

“It’s just the thrill of the bulls and everything,” Shere said. “It’s so much fun.”

The fair is open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and offers a full schedule of events, including the Miss Boone County Fair Queen and Little Miss Pageant; Monster Truck Show and the annual Truck and Tractor Pulls.

Country artist Justin Moore takes the grandstand stage at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9. Tickets for the show start at $40.

General admission to the fair is $10 for ages 11 and older and free for children 10 and under. Admission is free for those 65 and older on Thursday.

Season passes at $25 in advance, $40 at the gate. Daily tickers are $10.
