Boles receives five years for negligent homicide of 12-year-old in Southern Hills

Kelvin Boles received the sentence on Monday after pleading guilty to a lesser charge in connection with Jaylen Coleman’s death.

Boles was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty back in April to negligent homicide and illegally discharging a weapon. He had been charged with manslaughter in connection with Coleman’s death.

Coleman died after being shot in the head on May 11, 2024 along Hawthorne Drive.

Shreveport Police said Coleman was with a group of young people allegedly breaking into parked cars in the area.

Boles owned one of the vehicles and broke up the burglary attempt. Police said that in the process, he fired a shot, killing Coleman.

According to court records, Boles is receiving credit for time already served.
