LEESBURG, Va. (DC News Now) — Leesburg police said a person was hit in her head with a rock while running on the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail on Thursday afternoon. Now, police are asking for the community’s help in identifying the suspect.

The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. on July 10.

According to the Leesburg Police Department (LPD), the victim was running on the W&OD Trail near the Rhonda Place SE when she passed a man. Shortly after, she turned around and passed the same area.

That’s when the same man allegedly threw a rock at her, striking her in the back of the head, before leaving the area, police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Leesburg police described the suspect as a man between the ages of 25 and 30. He is about 5 feet and 5 inches tall. He was wearing a grey short-sleeved sweatshirt with a hood, shorts and tennis shoes.

Police urge anyone who was on the trail during the time of the incident or who can identify the man to call the police at 703-771-4500. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 703-443-8477.

The incident is being investigated as a malicious wounding.
