The Senate left Harrisburg before July 4 and won’t return until they’re called in to vote on a finished budget deal. The House has been in session a couple of days a week.
The official word is that budget talks continue and progress is being made.
However, abc27 News has been told Senate Republicans are still resisting what they consider an outlandish $51.5 billion spending number from Governor Josh Shapiro and House Democrats.
“What I can guarantee you about this state budget, what every lawmaker can guarantee you, is that it will be a result of compromise. No one will get everything they want. We understand the things that are critically important to each side, and we’re working through that right now in a real, respectful, and diligent way, and when we have more on that to say, we will,” Governor Shapiro said earlier this week.
The Governor declined to comment when asked what areas he and Republicans have agreed on, saying he’s not going to negotiate through the media.
