“The world’s top dog surfers as well as amateurs are invited to bring home the gold,” event organizers said on Friday.
In addition to the main dog surfing competition, the event will feature a number of activities, including the California Canine Dog Beach Fashion contest, rescue dog adoptions, and SurfDog Village partner tents and activities. Food vendors on-hand for the event will include the Moonraker food truck and Shampa’s Pies among other.
Pre-event activities include “Yappy Hour” on Friday Aug. 1 at Rockaway Beach Brewery.
As in years past, the event is an opportunity to help local charities raise money by sponsoring a contestant or team.
“The World Championships for Dog Surfing are based on the California coast — where the concept for the sport originated — bringing together dog surfing talent,” the event website reads. “Dog surfers are invited to bring home the gold for charity.”
Awards and prizes will be presented for the top three placeholders in different competition categories, which include tandem dog surfing, tandem human/dog surfing, and surfing heats for small, medium, large, and extra-large dogs.
Check-in for the competition gets underway at 9 a.m. with dog surfing exhibition and heats beginning at 9:20. Awards and prizes will be announced at 1:30 p.m. For more information, visit World Dog Surfing Championships – The Ultimate Surf Dog Championships.
