World Dog Surfing Championship to return for 2025 after hitting fundraising goal

(KRON) — In a bit of paws-itive news, it was announced this week that the World Dog Surfing Championship will return to Pacifica this summer. The popular event takes place annually on Linda Mar Beach.

However, this year’s event was not a sure thing, with organizers explaining that they had experienced an over 42% cost increase since last year and over 100% cost increase over the last four years. The cost increase was due to permits, fees and “other event requirements” requested by the local government.

“Over the last four years we absorbed the financial losses that these incurred, but we cannot do so again for another year,” organizers explained in a fundraiser launched earlier this year.

Unable to rectify the costs by increasing the number of vendors at the event or raising vendor fees, the organizers launched a GoFundMe, seeking to raise $14,500.

“But we hope with enough support from fans and friends from around the world we can do it again this year, and maybe even next year,” the organizers said.

The fundraiser had a May 1 deadline and on Monday, they announced the goal had been met.

“YOU DID IT!” the organizers said in an update. “Thanks to you and your support, the World Dog Surfing Championship 2025 will be returning to Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica.”

The event is set to take place on Aug. 2
