ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A New Orleans man accused of fleeing officers in an allegedly stolen vehicle has been arrested.
Around 8:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to pull over a Nissan Sentra that had reportedly been stolen out of New Orleans, at the corner of St. Bernard Highway and Palmisano Boulevard in Chalmette.
The driver, 28-year-old Dandre Dales, reportedly did not stop and fled across parish lines into New Orleans. Deputies attempted to stop Dales by deploying spike strips.
The car chase ended after Dales crashed on the Claiborne Bridge.
That’s when deputies said he got out the car, ran away and jumped into the Industrial Canal.
With assistance from multiple agencies, including NOPD, U.S. Coast Guard and New Orleans Harbor Police. Dales was recovered from the water and arrested.
During the investigation, deputies said they also found a gun that Dales allegedly threw from the vehicle.
He has since been booked on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and flight from an officer. Dales also has an outstanding warrant for unauthorized use of a movable vehicle out of Jefferson Parish.
