Sanplice Simien sentenced to two life terms in 2020 murders

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — A Palmetto man was sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars for killing two people in 2020, according to St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre.

Sanplice Christopher Simien, 48, of Palmetto, was sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor without probation, parole or suspension of sentence for killing Michael Thomas and Ladarious Keller in St. Landry Parish on Oct. 5, 2020.

Simien was convicted in the 27th Judicial District Court in March of two counts of first degree murder, and previously found guilty of three counts of attempted first degree murder in connection with the same incident.

Along with Thomas and Keller, three other young men were in a parked truck on Cook Street in Morrow, Louisiana, back in October of 2020, when Simien approached the truck from the driver’s side and opened fire with a handgun in each hand, prosecutors said.

In addition to the sentnces for the two murders, Simien was sentenced to 30 years in prison for each count of attempted murder, with all sentences to be served concurrently.
