More Intel layoffs as company cuts over 400 Bay Area jobs

(KRON) — Intel will cut over 400 Bay Area jobs in the latest round of layoffs at the tech giant. The chipmaker will cut 410 jobs in Santa Clara where it is headquartered, according to a notice filed with the Employment Development Department. Two of the layoffs will be at Intel’s Bowers Avenue facility with an additional 216 jobs being cut at its Juliette Lane facility.

Another eight cut at the chipmaker’s Laurelwood Road location. The majority, however, will be at the company’s Mision College Boulevard location where 184 jobs will be cut.

Outside of the Bay Area, Intel will also cut 174 jobs at its Folsom facility in Sacramento County, bringing the total number of layoffs in this round to 584. The job cuts, which are due to take effect on Tuesday, July 15, are all described as permanent.

The latest layoffs follow another round of job cuts at Intel earlier this month when it laid off 110 people. Last month, the chipmaker shed 107 jobs locally. Intel has also had layoffs in Oregon, Arizona and Texas.

The cutbacks at Intel come at a time when rival chipmaker has seen its market value soar, having been crowned Wall Street’s most valuable company earlier this week.
