According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 3100 block of Brookside Parkway North Drive for a person shot at 2:16 a.m. Friday.
Upon arrival, officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound in the back yard of a residence. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.
Police say an involved person stayed on scene, and told detectives some type of altercation led to the shooting. The individual was then taken to the hospital after complaining of neck pain.
A dog was also hurt during the incident.
Detectives were canvassing the area for possible witnesses. They were also looking for doorbell camera footage that could help the investigation.
“A lot of people have those these days and sometimes it really helps,” said Capt. John Arvin with IMPD. “This person, we believe, was shot in the back yard so the doorbell camera can tell us if something started in the street, over in a parking lot and moved to the back yard. Or maybe if he was shot in the street and made it to the back yard. So that is something that doorbell cameras will be able to help us with.”
Homicide and aggravated assault detectives were called to the scene. Investigators were hoping to talk to the shooting victim to learn more about what happened.
Anyone with information should contact IMPD at (317) 327-3475. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana by calling (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
The shooting remains under investigation.
