Kentucky man arrested after allegedly stealing multiple vehicles, trying to steal ambulance

MONTICELLO, Ky. (FOX 56) — Wayne County deputies spent the late hours of Thursday night into the early hours of Friday morning investigating after a man allegedly tried to steal a hospital ambulance before taking several other vehicles.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) announced on social media that the events began around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, when deputies were told that Anthony Dykes, 44, of Monticello, had allegedly tried to steal an ambulance but was unable to and took a black Ford Fusion and drove away.

The sheriff’s office wrote that about 15 minutes after they were called, deputies were sent to a residence on OP Link Road in response to reports that a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in the area had been stolen.

When deputies arrived at the residence, the victims said Dykes had asked to use their phone before he allegedly stole the pickup truck. After the conversation, the black Ford Fusion that had been taken from the hospital parking lot was found nearby, per the WCSO.

Around 12:15 a.m. on Friday, July 11, authorities said deputies had been dispatched to a residence on East KY 790 after getting a call about a man who came to the door asking for money before trying to pull the handle of a locked pickup truck in the area.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they were flagged down by a man who reported that another man had stopped to help Dykes, who had reportedly crashed.

The man told deputies that Dykes allegedly got in a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban he had been driving and allegedly drove off, turned around, and tried to hit him.
