3D printers, cache of guns found in San Jose firearms bust

(KRON) – An anonymous tip led to an investigation, where San Jose police found a cache of privately made firearms, ammunition and three 3D printers, according to the San Jose Police Department.

SJPD said last year that the department received an anonymous tip that a person living at an apartment complex in the 4900 block of Cherry Avenue was manufacturing and trafficking firearms.

The department’s Gun and Hazardous Offender Suppression Team (GHOST) began an investigation into the matter. Detectives identified 35-year-old Frank Catanzaro as the primary suspect and obtained a search warrant for his residence.

Police arrested Catanzaro and searched his residence on June 26. Officers found a cache of illegal firearm-related items, including multiple privately made firearms, a pistol equipped with a silencer attachment, ammunition, three 3D printers and more than 40 spools of filament commonly used in the production of firearms.

Catanzaro was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for manufacturing and possession of unserialized firearms, unlawful sale of firearms and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Anyone with information about this case or similar cases is asked to contact SJPD GHOST at 408-277-4161 or email 4554@sanjoseca.gov.
