Union County checkpoint yields DWI, drug, seat belt arrests
UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Late Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday morning, the Union County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff’s Alcohol Field Enforcement Unit led a coordinated public safety checkpoint operation on Old Charlotte Highway at Rogers Road, near South Piedmont Community College.

The goal of this checkpoint was to identify and investigate impaired drivers, safety violations and other traffic-related offenses. Law enforcement personnel at the checkpoint conducted roadside investigations, license and registration checks and sobriety evaluations to help ensure the safety of all motorists traveling through the area.

Checkpoint Results:

  • Driving While Impaired (DWI): 10
  • Driving After Consuming While Under 21: 1
  • Misdemeanor Drug Charges: 8
  • Seat Belt Violations: 4
  • Child Restraint Violations: 5
  • Driving While License Revoked (DWLR): 24
  • No Operator’s License (NOL): 42
  • Alcohol-Related Violations: 4
  • Registration Violations: 36
  • No Insurance: 1
  • Other Traffic Violations: 10
  • Warrants Served: 2
  • K9 Utilizations: 1
  • Blood Draws: 6
  • Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Evaluations: 2
