Skydiver fatality reported in mid-air collision in Ogle County

ROCHELLE, Ill. (WTVO) — Ogle County Deputies have reported that two skydivers collided in mid-air, resulting in one dead.

Officers were called to Route 251 and found a 40-year-old victim who suffered significant injuries on July 9, around 7 p.m.

He was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital by Rochelle Fire, where he was pronounced dead.

The second skydiver suffered minor injuries after landing in Kortiz Field at Rochelle Municipal Airport and was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital.

Authorities reported that the two skydivers collided in mid-air, causing both of their canopies to collapse.

The skydivers deployed reserve parachutes, but they still had an uncontrolled descent.

The incident is under investigation by the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and federal authorities.
